What Is 3004 Prepainted Aluminum Sheet?
3004 prepainted aluminum sheet is made from 3004 Al-Mn-Mg alloy with a factory-applied organic coating. The alloy offers higher strength than 3003 while retaining good formability, corrosion resistance and fabrication performance.
The exposed side is typically finished with a PE or PVDF color coating for weather protection and appearance. For truck and trailer body applications, the reverse side can be supplied with a clear back coating (back varnish) to provide additional surface protection during fabrication and service. Coating systems can be selected according to the required weather resistance, color retention and operating environment.
3004 prepainted aluminum sheet is commonly used for truck and trailer body panels, refrigerated vehicle skins, roofing, wall cladding, ceilings, appliance panels and other formed metal products.

PE or PVDF Coating?
PE and PVDF coatings differ mainly in weather resistance, color retention, service life and cost, making each suitable for different application and exposure conditions.
Polyester (PE)
A practical choice for general truck bodies, trailer siding, roofing and industrial panels. PE offers consistent appearance, forming compatibility and cost control for volume production.

PVDF
Recommended where exterior panels need higher UV resistance, weatherability and long-term color retention, including premium vehicle panels and architectural cladding.

- Fabricated enclosures
- Prefinished OEM panels
3004 vs. 5052 for Truck & Trailer Bodies
3004 and 5052 aluminum are both used for truck and trailer body panels, but they suit different requirements. 3004 offers good formability, moderate strength and cost efficiency for roofing, side skins and formed panels, while 5052 provides higher strength, better corrosion resistance and durability for side panels, doors and components exposed to heavier loads or demanding service conditions.
| Factor | 3004 | 5052 H32 |
|---|---|---|
| Alloy system | Al-Mn-Mg | Al-Mg |
| Strength | Moderate | Higher |
| Formability | Very good | Good |
| Panel rigidity | Good | Higher |
| Typical selection | Side panels and general body skin | Higher-strength panels and large roof sections |
| Cost position | More economical | Higher |
Choose 3004 where formability, prepainted appearance and cost control are priorities. Consider 5052 H32 when the design requires higher strength, greater dent resistance or more demanding structural performance.

FAQ
What is 3004 prepainted aluminum sheet?
It is 3004 Al-Mn-Mg aluminum sheet with a factory-applied organic coating. The material combines formability, corrosion resistance and a finished color surface for vehicle bodies, building panels and industrial enclosures.
Is 3004 aluminum suitable for truck body panels?
Yes. Its balance of strength, formability, low weight and corrosion resistance makes it suitable for prepainted side skins and formed commercial-vehicle panels.
What is the difference between 3004 and 5052 aluminum?
3004 offers very good forming performance and a practical cost position for general prepainted panels. 5052 H32 provides higher strength and dent resistance for more demanding body structures. Final selection should consider thickness, forming method and service load.
What is the difference between PE and PVDF coating?
PE is a cost-effective option for general-purpose color-coated panels. PVDF is normally selected when higher UV resistance, weatherability and long-term exterior color retention are required.
Can 3004 prepainted sheet be bent and roll formed?
Yes. Suitable temper and coating combinations can be bent, profiled and roll formed. Bend radius, thickness, temper and coating system should be confirmed before volume production.
Can colors and sheet dimensions be customized?
Yes. RAL, Pantone or approved sample matching can be specified together with custom thickness, width, length, gloss and protective-film requirements, subject to production confirmation.
